Ty Mawr Publications is a small publishing company operated by me, Steve Morris. It is named after the farm I used to live on alongside the railway line just on the outskirts of Holyhead. It can be seen in the foreground of the front cover of “Class Forties to Holyhead”, one of the books featured on this site. Sadly the farm is now a thing of the past having been demolished to make way for the A55 dual carriageway.
Ty Mawr Publications aim to provide you with top quality railway books along with an opportunity to read articles that I have provided for the railway press over the years.
The products featured on the following pages have either been produced or published by Ty Mawr Publications and are supplied direct by me.
Nine items have been produced over the last few years although, as you will see, two have now sold out. It is planned to add to others this as time permits. However, this is not my main “job”, just a hobby so do not expect too many additions too quickly!
It is all pretty simple really! Using the links above, you will be taken to a page that provides a description of the item concerned including sample pages and a link to an eBay page where copies can be purchased. If you prefer not to use eBay, please follow the link to the order
page and print off an order form. Note the significant discount available for multiple purchases.
I plan to increase the scope of the site at a later date to include a selection of my railway photographs for general viewing and purchase should you wish to own a copy. However, until this is done, feel free to request copies of any of photographs that you may see in publications or on other sites such as those listed in the links below.
Should you wish to purchase prints of any of my photos, either those in books or seen on other websites such as either of the excellent:
“Rail Photo Archive”
Charlie Hulme’s “North Wales Coast Railway”
David Hill’s “BR /Sulzer Type 2”
Drop me a line on email@example.com
to place an order.
Prices are £0.99 for 6x4, £1.49 for 7x5 & £2.99 for 9x6 inches, all printed on high quality photo glossy paper.
I have had an interest in Railways since 1974 when I was about 12 and living in Holyhead. Earliest memories are Cattle trains pulling out of the town hauled by pairs of class 24’s, class 40 hauled Freightliner trains struggling up the bank towards the level alongside Anglesey Aluminium as well as the odd class 50 visit to Holyhead on both passenger and Freightliner workings. Most of my friends had fathers who worked on the Railway so we were fortunate enough to enjoy quite a few trips across “The Coast” in the Secondman’s seat! This reinforced my interest and made the decision on what career I would follow on finishing school very easy indeed!
I left Holyhead in 1980 to work for British Railways on an Engineering Management sponsorship and spent the next 10 years working in such places as Derby Loco and Litchurch Lane Works, Eastfield, Crewe Works, WR locomotive HQ in Paddington & Swindon and finally Cardiff Canton, the subject of my second book. In 1989 I left BR for a career in the Railway supply industry and currently work for Becorit, a German company specialising in the supply of brake components for all types of Rolling stock.
My career to date has enabled me to make the most of my main interest, railway photography and I have been fortunate enough to gather a large number of images in places that would not normally be accessible to the general public. I will share as many of these with you as possible as time permits and I hope they are of interest.
